You’re deep in the Andes, harvesting a bounty of fresh beans and añu root to cook in the earth with smoke-perfumed meat. Beside you, a villager explains pachamanca—this flavorful celebration of an Incan Earth goddess and its importance to indigenous communities, to the cycles of life and to everything around you. This ritual is a celebration of life, and a magical moment in a week overflowing with experiences you’ll never forget: climbing up a misty Andean peak on the iconic Inca Trail, sunrise over a ‘lost’ 15th-century city hemmed in by forest-clad mountains, and an outdoor banquet in one of the world’s most beautiful places. This is the true Peru, full of flavor and epic adventure.
The prolific poster child of modern Peruvian cuisine, Lima-born Ricardo Zarate is the mastermind behind a string of buzzworthy restaurants, including the prestigious Rosaliné in L.A.’s West Hollywood; Picca in Beverly Hills; and the brand new Colibrí in Hollywood. Fueled by his own passion and recognition from the likes of the Michelin Guide and the James Beard Foundation — Ricardo has received four nominations — he is eager to share the multidimensionality of Peru’s rich culinary traditions with us.
If you want to explore the heights of the Andes and experience true local culture and cuisine, this trip is for you. Explore artsy Lima, taste and cook traditional Peruvian cuisine, hike the Inca Trail and experience sunrise over Machu Picchu alongside Ricardo Zarate.

3 Reasons to Travel with Ricardo Zarate
Though he’s accrued a trophy case of prestigious awards—including Food & Wine Magazine’s “Best New Chef”—Ricardo prides himself on coming from humble origins. His childhood home in Lima is a constant source of inspiration for all his endeavors—from his heralded cookbook, "The Fire of Peru" to his newest restaurant, Colibrí. We can't wait to explore Peru alongside its native son.

Family First
Born one of 13, he grew up alongside the constant simmer of pots on the stove and the comforting cacophony of family dinners. Often his mother's only helper, it’s no wonder that, for Ricardo, food is community.
A Lesson in Every Dish
Steeped in millenia of timeless traditions and storied lore, Peruvian cuisine is history, embodied. Ricardo’s innovative menus reflect the multifaceted tapestry of Peru’s gastronomical legacy, and pay homage to the countless cultures fundamental in its formation.
Straight Out of Lima
Though shy at first, Ricardo is a storyteller at his core. Born and raised in Lima and dubbed "the Godfather of Peruvian Cuisine" by legendary LA Times food critic, Jonathan Gold, he's immensely proud of his heritage and cannot wait to show the world his hometown.

Where We Sleep

Our accommodations reflect the beauty and grace of Peru, setting the tone for our week of inspired exploration.
Hotel B
LimaNestled within Lima’s trendy Barranco neighborhood, Hotel B exudes elevated bohemian charm. Once a summer home for a wealthy Limeño family, the stately mansion has been impeccably restored with Italian marble, pristine terraces, and over 300 original works of art by Latin America’s buzziest visionaries.] Whether you’re luxuriating in the peaceful tradition of afternoon tea in B’s elegant library or noting hints of passion fruit and huacatay with a cocktail in its award-winning bar, you’ll find that inspiration abounds in this artistic oasis.

Sol y Luna
The Sacred ValleyCentered within the quiet majesty of the Andes Mountains, Hotel Sol y Luna is the beating heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Intimate casitas overlook gardens blooming with local flora, while inside, sunlight illuminate warm terracotta floors and colorful Peruvian folk art. In the candlelit spa, immerse yourself in a therapeutic float that blends native healing techniques with modern luxury—it’s the perfect, nourishing prelude to an Andean dinner made with fresh ingredients sourced directly from the Sacred Valley.

Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel
Aguas CalientesDeep within the cloud forest, stone pathways wind through terraced hills, connecting charming whitewashed casitas to over 12 acres of exquisite natural beauty. Golden-headed quetzals soar overhead as you breathe in the perfumed air of the world’s largest native orchid collection, while unrivaled views of the Vilcanota River await you in Inkaterra’s stately glass dining room.

El Monasterio
CuscoManicured gardens and gilded corridors await you in this stately Baroque hideaway. A mere stone’s throw from Cusco’s imposing Plaza de Armas, the hotel grounds reverberate with timeless luxury and wonder. A 300-year-old Andean cedar tree centered in the tranquil courtyard invites soulful inspiration.

I formed bonds in unexpected ways with so many different people.
I would do exactly the same trip again!
I loved having so many opportunities to explore Peruvian culture and the landscape.

We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance. Travel insurance allows you to seek reimbursement for your trip costs; if your trip plans change for unforeseeable reasons, or if you need to get medical help, emergency transport, and for theft, loss or damage of items while traveling. For best coverage, always insure the full trip cost within two weeks of your initial trip deposit and note that most ‘Cancel For Any Reason’ policies must be purchased on the date of your initial deposit.
-
What is the cancellation policy?
You may cancel on or before June 26, 2023 and receive a full refund minus a $750 per-person service fee (due to Inca Trail Permits being made at time of booking, an additional $250 fee is applied to our standard $500 cancelation fee). If you cancel on or after June 27, 2023 there is a 50% cancellation fee. On or after August 25, 2023 there is a 100% cancellation fee. We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance as we are not able to make exceptions to this policy in cases of family/medical emergency or cases of the trip being canceled (see our Terms and Conditions for full details).
