You’re standing in vineyards sipping one of the finest wines you’ve ever tasted. A leg of lamb slow-roasts in the Andean open air, an homage to the ‘seven fires’ at the heart of traditional Argentine cuisine. You look up and breathe in the view of the snowy Andean range before you. Tomorrow you’re climbing it, like a gaucho, on horseback, and celebrating with dinner at a glorious hacienda. You tuck an alpaca blanket over your lap and raise a glass to your lips. No Malbec you’ve tried compares with this experience in its birthplace.
You’re in the company of award-winning Chef John Manion, a master of South American cooking and owner of Chicago’s El Che Steakhouse & Bar. It’s not just a Chicago Tribune 3-star restaurant — or, as USA Today puts it, “the best steakhouse in Chicago” — it’s a love letter to Argentina, John’s second home. We couldn’t be more excited to travel with him in a place this close to his heart.
If you have a taste for world-class wine, good food and vibrant culture, join us as we hike, dine and drink in the rich history and landscapes, from Mendoza to Uco Valley to Buenos Aires. Meet chefs and winemakers, and artists in their studios. If you travel to stimulate all of your senses, join us in Argentina with John Manion.

3 Reasons to Travel with John Manion
John’s love of South American culture and cuisine started at an early age — eight years old to be exact, when his family moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil. Before long, he was learning the customs and cultures on travels across Argentina and South America. Now in Chicago, he is known for his live fire cooking.

A Yearning for Argentina
John’s soulful connection to Argentina extends far beyond its food. It’s the art, design, and cocktails of Buenos Aires. It's cooking a steak sizzling over an open flame in the Uco Valley. Throughout his extensive time traveling in Argentina, John has built lifelong friendships with winemakers, chefs, artists and cultural tastemakers. Visiting these local comrades and catching up over a Fernet y Coke is what it's all about for John.
His Food is Fire
John has a reputation around Chicago as the “King of Live Fire”, and for good reason. He’s perfected his techniques throughout his career as a chef. El Che is consistently ranked as one of the best steakhouses in Chicago, standing out from the competition with a fierce commitment to Argentine asador traditions. Most recently, he has teamed up with Fitzgerald’s, an historic music venue to create Babygold Barbecue.
The Trophy Case
Authenticity is at the core of everything John puts on the menu. It's this commitment that has inspired multiple Jean Banchet “Chef of the Year” nominations, the “Master of the Flame” title from Chicago Tribune’s “Critic’s Choice Dining Awards" and a score of love letters to the restaurant's 100% South American wine list in publications like Wine Spectator and Food & Wine.

For best coverage, always insure the full trip cost within two weeks of your initial trip deposit and note that most ‘Cancel For Any Reason’ policies must be purchased on the date of your initial deposit.
