Now more than we ever, we are looking forward to brighter days filled with inspiration, travel and sharing, and for our guests to experience the people and places that bring meaning to our Modern Adventure travels.

The past few years have redefined the way we do things. It’s been a long, winding trek through uncharted territory with new norms and shared vernacular: quarantines and travel restrictions, social distancing, and masks…

Despite all the headwinds, we remain fully committed to delivering our curated small-group experiences and private departures. Like many others, our industry is evolving in response to COVID. We are implementing new protocols, and proactively responding to necessary operational changes so you can focus on having a worry-free experience. We know the future will require adaptations, flexibility and an unwavering focus on health and safety—with joy and discovery always at the very core of Modern Adventure.

In an effort to support your travel decisions and in response to the current environment, we have revised our policies to create more flexibility. Will my trip run as scheduled in 2023?

We actively monitor global and U.S. government agencies and take health and safety guidance from expert-led governing bodies. If travel to your destination is deemed safe and our Modern Adventure can operate safely and smoothly, with integrity, and deliver a great experience, we will be running it.

What changes will there be on my Modern Adventure trip?

You should anticipate specific COVID-related protocols based on the circumstances and environment for each departure. All COVID-related protocols and requirements will be shared with all guests prior to your travel dates, and may include destination-specific entry and/or air travel requirements, pre-departure COVID testing, group protocols, revised dining arrangements, and changes to local transport.

When will you notify me if a COVID-related trip postponement is necessary?

Approximately 45 days prior to departure, we will determine if it is safe and feasible to run your trip. Any postponement decisions will be communicated to all guests at this time (or closer to travel if the situation dictates).

How do you determine if a Modern Adventure trip should run or be postponed?

If travel restrictions, entry requirements, trip integrity, safety or regional variances preclude us from traveling this year, the trip will be rescheduled and you will have the option to travel on the new date.

What if my trip is postponed due to COVID-related travel issues?

Whenever possible we reschedule impacted departures, and your booking is automatically transferred to the new date. If you are unable to travel on the rescheduled date, you can transfer to another Modern Adventure experience without penalty, or keep 100% of your booking value as a Trip Credit to be used on any Modern Adventure traveling in 2023 or 2024. We always recommend purchasing trip insurance and looking for trip cancellation and interruption coverage as we do not provide this.

What are my options if I want to cancel my booking?

The terms of our cancellation policy are based on the commitments and contractual obligations we have with our destination partners, including the hotels, airlines, transportation companies, local experts, guides, restaurants and experience providers we work with to ensure the level of curation and trip quality. We make significant payments and deposits at the time of making a trip available for booking, and these are generally nonrefundable and nonrecoverable based on the key dates of our cancellation policy. These dates are as follows, based on your trip’s original departure date:

  • 120 days or more: Cancel your booking and receive a full refund, minus a $500 per-person service fee
  • Between 119 and 61 days: Cancel your booking and receive a 50% refund
  • 60 days or less: Your booking is 100% non-refundable

Why is there a service fee to cancel my booking more that 120 days ahead of travel?

When you cancel a booking for any reason, including electing not to travel on your trip’s rescheduled travel date, there is a per-person service fee. This is to offset unrecoverable costs to Modern Adventure including credit card fees, non-recoverable hotel and dining deposits, non-refundable permits and booking fees, local taxes and administration costs.

What if I am booked on a trip and have concerns about traveling?

Our goal is to provide flexibility so that you can have the time and information you need to make the best decision. If Modern Adventure deems the trip safe and viable and you wish to cancel, our standard Terms & Conditions apply (see Question 06).

My trip was postponed and I prefer to receive a Trip Credit. How do Trip Credits work?

Modern Adventure issues Trip Credits in the amount of your original booking, minus any applicable fees. Trip Credits may be used to book any Modern Adventure. You are not required to apply the Trip Credit to your next booking and may elect to apply it to a subsequent booking, subject to its expiration date. For complete details see our Terms & Conditions.

What steps are taken during the trip to mitigate the spread of COVID?

We strongly recommend that guests who are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccination and/or booster shot do so in preparation for their travel. Destinations and their local laws may have different requirements and definitions of what constitutes full vaccination. Guests who have not received a booster dose may be prevented from traveling to certain destinations.

In addition, it may be a requirement to provide a negative COVID-19 test result prior to your departure and your return to your home country. Other destination specific requirements may include proof of health insurance that provides COVID coverage, traveler’s affidavit, health questionnaires and PCR tests upon arrival. Information will be provided in guest communications leading up to your trip.

By booking a Modern Adventure you are agreeing to these terms and to providing proof of vaccination if or as required.

What happens if I get sick during a trip?

If you or someone else test positive for COVID during your trip, we will assist you in accessing appropriate medical care as quickly as possible. You will then be responsible to follow the advice of local health authorities if there is a need to self-isolate or quarantine, or if there is a risk to other travelers in the group. We will not be able to provide refunds of the monies paid, even if the trip is interrupted and there are unused services as a result. Please also note that any expenses for testing, treatment, or self-isolation will need to be covered by you or your travel insurance, so please ensure you have access to funds while traveling.
